About Phonepe

PhonePe was founded in December, 2015 by Sameer Nigam, Burzin Engineer and Rahul Chari and it is headquartered in Bangalore, India.

This is a digital payment company that went live in August, 2016 and was the first payment app in Unified Payments Interface. PhonePe enables you to transfer money from different bank accounts to any bank, just using a smartphone and besides it helps to make the payments throughout India in a secure way.

The app is available in over 11 Indian languages and it has over 200 million users. It is accepted as a payment method at over 10 million offline and online shops in all 400 cities from India covering travel, medicines, food, groceries and multiple services. PhonePe crossed 5 billion transactions in December 2019.

PhonePe users are able to send and request money from their contacts anytime and anywhere; check their account balance; recharge their prepaid mobile for multiple operators; pay credit card bills; buy and sell gold at market rates; pay for electronics, mobiles, fashion, furniture, food etc; manage their refunds.

The app also won some awards like the “Best Mobile Payment Product or Service” at the 9th India Digital Awards 2019, the “Best Digital Wallet” Initiative at the Indian Retail and eRetail Awards in 2019 and the “Best Digital Wallet” initiative at the 8th Annual Indian Retail & eRetail Awards in 2019.
